LIVING WATER FLOWS IN PERU

The poorest people on our earth lack clean drinking water.  LightShine is changing this for the poor in Peru -  "LIVING WATER"
Water Filters Manchay Peru, Water Purification, Clean Drinking water

In 2009 Lightshine Director Paul Eklund made an initial trip to "Manchay", a dry and desolate region of Peru southeast of Lima.  At that time Lightshine's focus was centered on providing housing, health care and education for abandoned and orphaned children in Peru.  Lightshine had helped children who had lived near Manchay.  While talking with villagers, Eklund first learned of their plight: many complained of contaminated water (parasites, metals from mining), with no hope for pure drinking water.

In 2013 Lightshine representatives met with several Peruvians from the mountainous villages in the Huaraz region of the Peruvian Andes.  Lightshine arranged for four (4) bottles containing water samples from four villages to be tested by Seattle University (engineering department).  partnering with Seattle University and with a Rotary Club in Lima, Lightshine began researching filtration techniques for portable 'point of use' filters taht could be used by individual families in remote rural areas.

In June 2014 Lightshine provided water filters for families in Condorpampa, Peru, and in 2015 Lightshine began a series of  'Living Water' projects in Manchay, Peru.  Manchay consists of many 'colinas' (hillside areas) which lack water systems/reservoirs, sanitation, and power.  With the permission of the Peruvian congress, and in partnership  with Lightshine donors, we have distributed hundreds of water filters to families in Manchay.  The local Catholic diocese (Parroquia Espirtu Santo) has assisted with distribution of our filters also facilitating medicine to cure children infected with parasites.
